I haven’t thought of a good description yet…

Photography Gear

I thought it might be fun to list out the gear I have for photography. Possibly, over time, I’ll make posts that help inform others choices in gear.

I shoot both film and digital, with the benefit of being able to use most of my film lenses digitally through the use of adapters. I separate my equipment here based on it being film or digital, but do note that the film glass can be used digitally.

Adapters

The best part about mirrorless systems is that you can use basically any lens on them due to the distance between the lens flange and the sensor being so small. I only have a couple of adapters mostly because I primarily use M-Mount glass, but the options are limitless!

The one special case is the Voigtlander VM-E adapter with helicoil. Its basically an M adapter with an adjustable extension tube so I can drag my focus point closer than normal. This is especially useful with M mount glass since they all artificially limit their closest focusing distance to .7 meters due to limitations in Leica’s Rangefinders. With the adapter I can get much closer but I haven’t really measured it, so I’m not sure what the distance actually is. Its not macro, but its darn close!

Accessories

Peak Design

I cannot stress enough how much I love Peak Design. I have funded almost every Kickstarter they’ve ever done and I haven’t been disappointed yet. I use their bags every day and I haven’t found anything better yet. No one really competes in pure thoughtfulness. The utility of their strap lug system can’t be stressed enough. I can use all the same accessories across my cameras by just using the same lugs on all attachment points, plus they change colors when they are weakening, no more worrying if they’re “still good” or not!
